We only have experience in SA-beta-galactosidase detection in cultured cells. To our knowledge, most people have successfully detected SA-beta-gal using frozen sections. This could be because detection of SA-beta-gal is pH-dependent, which is preserved better during the processing of frozen tissues, as compared to formalin embedded tissues.
