- Dissolve NIPAAm, HEMA and 4-(acryloxymethyl)-phenylboronic acid pinacol ester in 1, 4-dioxane at a molar ratio of 75/15/10.
2. Purge the solution with N2 for 30 min to remove air.
3. Add benzoyl peroxide to the solution. The molar ratio of benzoyl peroxide and all monomers is 1:500.
4. Purge the solution with N2 for another 30 min.
5. Immerse the flask with the above solution in a 70oC oil bath overnight with continuous stirring.
6. Precipitate the solution into cold hexane.
7. Dissolve the polymer in tetrahydrofuran.
8. Precipitate the polymer solution into cold diethyl ether.
9. Repeat steps 8 and 9 twice.
10. Air dry the polymer followed by vacuum drying at 40oC for 1 day.
11. The dry polymer is dissolved in CDCl3 to determine the chemical structure using an 1H-NMR spectroscopy.
