4.2. Materials

Xanthurenic acid was obtained from Sigma and NCS-486 was synthesized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Strasbourg, France (Figure 7).

The synthesis of NCS-486 was carried out in a two-step reaction starting from readily available methyl-8-nitro-4-oxo 1,4 dihydroquinoline 2-carboxylate as described in [30]. Reduction of the nitro group and hydrolysis of the methyl ester were performed according to the previous description in Taleb et al. [26].

All drugs were dissolved in the Ringer solution (final pH 7.0) or in sterile NaCl 0.9%.
