The samples were processed using the same procedure as that applied to the rat femurs (see Section 2.5). Sections of the pig femurs were stained using 20% Giemsa’s azur eosin methylene blue solution (Merck Millipore, Darmstadt, Germany) [50] and the whole surface of the implants photographed using a bright field microscope with a 10× objective. All the steps applied during the microscopic evaluation complied with ISO 10993-6.
