For the first-stage seed preparation, an agar grown culture of strain MT25T, was inoculated into 10 mL of GYE medium (4.0 g glucose, 4.0 g yeast extract, agar 15 g, distilled H2O 1 L, pH 7.0). After 5 days incubation at 28 °C, with agitation, the first stage culture was used to inoculate the production fermentation, using ISP2 broth (yeast extract 4 g, malt extract 10 g, glucose 4 g, CaCO3 2 g, distilled H2O 1 L, pH 7.3). The fermentation was incubated at 28 °C, with agitation, and the biomass was harvested on the seventh day. All media components were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA).
