The INQ-15 was adopted to assess perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness34, two constructs that have been proposed to lead to suicidal desire25,26. The perceived burdensomeness subscale includes six items, and the thwarted belongingness subscale includes nine items. Each item (e.g., “these days, I think I am a burden on society”) was rated on a scale of 1 (not at all true for me) to 7 (very true for me). The questionnaire has shown good psychometric properties, such as good reliability, and convergent and divergent validity. Both subscales demonstrated good internal consistency across two timepoints (αs = 0.87—0.92).
