Nucleotide variations at the 5′ and 3′ ends of intact LTR retrotransposons and DNA substitution rates were calculated (Huang et al., 2020). The nucleotide variations and DNA substitution rates were used to estimate the insert time of LTR retrotransposons according to the method described by Ma and Bennet-zen (2004).
