Mice from the control, susceptible and resilient groups were euthanized by decapitation 7 d after the SIT. Brains were removed and flash frozen with 2-methylbutane chilled in dry ice. Bilateral punches of the pregenual mPFC [including prelimbic (PrL) and infralimbic (IL) subregions], the NAcc, and the ventral tegmental area (VTA) were taken from 1 mm-thick coronal sections, starting from plate 14 of the mouse brain atlas (Paxinos and Franklin, 2019) for mPFC and NAcc, and plate 55 for VTA.
