The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) is an ongoing population‐based study, which recruited pregnant women residing in Avon, UK, with expected dates of delivery between April 1, 1991, and December 31, 1992. The core sample consisted of 14,541 pregnant women, of which 14,062 were live births and alive at 1 year of age. Participants have been regularly followed up through clinic visits and questionnaires (see supplementary Methods). Detailed information about ALSPAC is available on the study website which includes a fully searchable data dictionary of available data (http://www.bris.ac.uk/alspac/researchers/data-access/data-dictionary). The phases of enrolment are described in more detail in the cohort profile paper and its update (Boyd et al., 2013; Fraser et al., 2013; Northstone et al., 2019).
