Overnight cultures of S. enterica cells were diluted 100-fold into fresh L-broth containing 100 µg ml−1 ampicillin, and the cells were grown at 30 °C for 3 h with shaking. After adding IPTG at a final concentration of 0.1 mM, the incubation was continued for another 4 h. The cell growth was monitored at an OD600 every hour. Three different cells were measured and averaged.
