A size definition of occult hernia has not been universally adopted worldwide. In the literature, Chinese population studies have introduced the concept of "early" occult hernia as a relatively shallow local pitting of the peritoneum in the inguinal region with a small diameter (approximately < 1 cm) despite the presence of a peritoneum defect. The international guidelines for inguinal hernia from 2018 [1] suggest that hidden hernias should be defined as by the HerniaSurge Group as: asymptomatic hernias not detectable by physical examination.
