The cardiac echocardiographic examinations were evaluated by an experienced sonographer who was blinded to the study with a PHILIPS HD11XE imaging system (Philips Inc., Bothell, WA). The left atrial diameter and right atrial diameter were measured and recorded over at least three cardiac cycles. The left ventricular ejection fraction was measured and calculated by Simpson’s biplane method on apical-2 and 4 chamber views [15].
