A cross-sectional study design was employed at UGCSH from March 1 to April 15, 2019. UGCSH is found in Gondar town of Amhara regional state, which is located 743 km northwest of the capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and it serves Gondar and surrounding zones. Type 2 DM patients attending the outpatient's clinic of the hospital for routine follow-up during the study period were included. All patients with a known hematologic disease, those who received a blood transfusion in the preceding 3 months, and those who were pregnant women were excluded.
