The BAI is a 21-item self-report measure of anxiety symptoms. Participants are asked to indicate how much a given symptom (e.g., nervous) has bothered them during the past week on a scale of 0 (not at all) to 3 (severely—it bothered me a lot). Items are summed to produce a total score (range 0–63) with higher scores indicating greater symptom severity. This measure has demonstrated good reliability in clinical and non-clinical samples (0.92 and 0.93, respectively, Beck et al., 1996). It also showed good reliability in this study (α = 0.93).
