Hoechst 33258 staining was used for morphological assessment of apoptotic cells. The untreated and treated cells were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde in phosphate-buffered saline at 4 °C for 20 min. The cells were washed twice with PBS and then stained with 1 mM 33258 fluorescent dye (Sigma-Aldrich). Cells (n = 5) were observed and photographed under fluorescence microscopy (Leica DM IL LED, Wetzlar, Germany) [23].
