A methodological quality assessment was also performed for clinical studies based on the PEDro Scale [57]. This scale evaluates studies with a checklist of 11 items based on experts’ consensus criteria in physiotherapy practice. The complete details of the criteria can be found online [58]. A higher score in the PEDro scale (6 and above) implied better methodological quality but are not used as a measure of validity in terms of clinical outcomes. Pre-defined scores from this scale were already present in studies appearing in the PEDro search. However, studies without PEDro scores or are not present in the PEDro database at all had to be manually evaluated by the authors against the 11-item checklist (five of seven studies).
