At d18.5, pregnant females were euthanized by CO2 asphyxiation and cervical dislocation, and fetuses were euthanized by decapitation. Placentae were collected, and placental and fetal weights were recorded. One half of each placenta was fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde in PBS overnight for histological analysis. The second half of each placenta was divided into two pieces, one for gene expression analysis and the second for DNA methylation analysis. Both were snap frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80°C until needed.
