The values of ABI were measured by using an ABI-form device (VP1000; Colin Co. Ltd., Komaki, Japan), which automatically and simultaneously measures blood pressures in both arms and ankles using an oscillometric method 26. ABI of each leg was calculated by the ratio of the ankle over the higher brachial systolic blood pressure. After obtaining bilateral ABIs, the lower one was selected for later analysis.
