Total lung collagen levels were assessed using the Hydroxyproline Assay Kit (Sigma-Aldrich). Briefly, mouse lung tissue samples were homogenized with H2O to a concentration of 100 mg/ml. Samples (100 μl) were hydrolyzed by the addition of 100 μl of 12 M HCl, and duplicate 5-μl aliquots were analyzed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
