The mice were randomly assigned to experimental groups (the exact number of mice per group is indicated in the figure legends) at the start of the experiment. Toxoplasma tachyzoites were harvested from cell culture and released by passage through a 27-gauge needle, followed by a 30-gauge needle. CD-1 mice were intraperitoneally (i.p.) infected with 100 tachyzoites of each strain and parasite viability of the inocula was determined in a plaque assay after infection. The mice were monitored for 30 days p.i., and the number of dead mice per group was observed every individual day.
