Metabolite Set Enrichment Analysis (MSEA), based on the analysis of the main metabolites contributing to the discrimination between the groups, was carried out using MetaboAnalyst [27]. Metabolic pathways showing a fold enrichment higher that 1 and a false discovery rate (FDR) < 0.05 were considered significantly altered.
