A formal sample size calculation for this observational study was not made. In 2017–2018, 434 patients needed fireworks-related treatment in a Dutch hospital [2]. The Trauma Region Southwest Netherlands covers approximately 2.5 million inhabitants, and with a total population of 17 million in the Netherlands, approximately 60–70 patients were expected to be eligible for inclusion.
