Paraffin-embedded slices were dewaxed and rehydrated, before the slices were washed in tap water and distilled water. Regaud's hematoxylin staining solution or Weigert's hematoxylin staining solution was used to stain the nuclei for 5–10 min before washing. The slices were thoroughly washed thoroughly with water. If the tissues were over-stained, they were destained with 1% hydrochloric acid in ethanol and washed with distilled water. Masson Ponceau-acidic fuchsin staining solution was used to stain the slices for 5–10 min, and 2% acetic acid was then used to briefly wash the slice. The slices were subsequently destained with a 1% phosphomolybdic acid aqueous solution for 3–5 min before they were stained with aniline blue or green staining solution for 5 min. The slices were briefly rinsed with a 0.2% glacial acidic acid solution and then rinsed in 95% ethanol and absolute ethanol, cleared in xylene and sealed with neutral resin.
