NOS activity was measured in the culture media and in the serum from the patients using the Griess Assay [19] which measures NO oxidative products (NOx). Briefly, culture media or sera were mixed with freshly prepared Griess reagent and the absorbance was measured at 550 nm. The concentration of nitrites in the samples was determined using a calibration curve generated with a known concentration of sodium nitrite (NaNO2) solutions. The experiment was performed in triplicate 3 times.
