Acid-insoluble lignin was determined using Klason lignin analysis of 150–200 mg extractive-free rind tissue, as previously described [15]. Acid-soluble lignin was determined by measuring the absorbance at 205 nm of the filtrate after isolation of acid-insoluble lignin and calculated using an extinction coefficient of 110 L/g cm.
