All experiments were conducted in compliance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals published by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH Publication No. 85-23, revised 1996). The protocols were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. All studies were performed in the conditional human HTT bacterial artificial chromosome (BACHD) transgenic mouse model in the FVB/NJ background strain as originally reported (37). Transgenic and littermate controls of either sex were used. The age of the mice was from 8 to 18 months.
