The chronic RI stress protocol was carried out as previously described.8 Briefly, each mouse was placed in the restrainer device (1.5 × 4 cm, Braintree Scientific, Braintree, MA, USA) for 6 h per day for 31 consecutive days. The devices had multiple air holes and allowed animals to stretch their legs, but not to move within the restrainers. Immediately after this period, each animal was returned to the home cage and had access to food and water ad libitum.
