Cell-free supernatants were mixed in a 1:1 ratio with methanol and then mixed with chloroform at a 1:4 ratio (chloroform/starting supernatant volume). Precipitates were collected by centrifugation and washed with methanol followed by centrifugation. Precipitates were dissolved in 4X Laemmli buffer for Western blot analysis.
