For cold-induced thermogenic gene expression analysis, individually housed male mice (3 months old) were kept at 4 °C for 6 h every day with free access to food and water continuously for 7 days. For cold tolerance studies, core body temperature of mice surgically implanted with the Mini-Mitter implantable bio-telemetric thermo-sensors was monitored using a telemetry system at various times of cold exposure44. Briefly, mice were individually housed with free access to food and water at room temperature (~24 °C) for 48 h, and then subjected to cold exposure (4 °C) for 6 h. The data were processed using the Vital View software.
