Plasma levels of IL-6 and IL-10 were measured by high sensitivity enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (America-IBL), according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The choice of these two cytokines reflects their opposite role in inflammaging setting. In particular, elevated IL-6 pro-inflammatory levels are associated with a reduced capacity to reach the extreme limits of human life, whereas high levels of anti-inflammatory IL-10 are present among centenarians [42].
