Brain water content was measured on day 1 after ICH, as previously described (Li et al., 2017a, 2017c; Ren et al., 2018). Briefly, without perfusion, brain tissue was removed and divided into three parts: ipsilateral hemisphere, contralateral hemisphere, and cerebellum. Brain tissues were weighed to measure wet weights and then dried for 24 h at 100°C to obtain dry weights. The following formula was used to calculate brain water content: (wet weight − dry weight)/wet weight × 100%.
