To analyze the degree of microglial activation in MPTP-treated SN with the absence or presence of CAP and/or CB1/2 antagonists, images were obtained from the same area in each tissue sample using a light microscope (Zeiss Axioskop, Oberkochen, Germany) with 40x magnification (1024 × 1024 pixels). As previously described [22], all original images were collected, converted to 8-bit grayscale, filtered to further increase the contrast of images, and skeletonized using ImageJ. Then, the skeletonized images were selected, and the information for the branch length signal was analyzed using the plugin AnalyzeSkeleton (2D/3D).
