The water solubility was measured by following method [25]. The chitosan and chitosan derivatives (0.5 g) were dispersed in 0.5 mL distilled water, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature until dissolution equilibrium. After centrifugation and filtration, the undissolved solids were rinsed with ethanol, and dried in vacuo overnight. The water solubility was measured by the following equation:
where m1 is the weight of the undissolved solids (mg).
