Immunohistochemical staining on paraffin-embedded heart tissue was performed for each experimental time-point using a primary antibody against αSMA (Millipore anti-alpha-actin (smooth muscle) clone E184, rabbit monoclonal; dilution: 1 : 500), followed by a secondary biotinylated anti-rabbit IgG, and developed using the Histostain® Plus detection system (Invitrogen; Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc.).
