A Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterial pneumonia mouse model was generated as previously described (20). Briefly, C57Bl/6J mice (JAX #000664, Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine) were anesthetized and 100 μl of K. pneumoniae bacterial slurry (strain 43816, serotype 2, American Type Culture Collection, Manassas, Virginia) was administered intratracheally. Age- and sex-matched mice were used for experiments. Forty-eight hours after K. pneumoniae inoculation, mice were euthanized, and blood and lung tissue were collected. All procedures were performed with approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at the University of Pittsburgh (protocol number 18063096).
