Ergosterol was extracted from 1 g A. fumigatus mycelium as described in [22]. Ergosterol quantification was performed using a gas chromatograph (Hewlett Packard 5890 series II) with a flame ionization detector and a chrompack capillary column (Chrompack International BV, Middleburg, The Netherlands). The carrier gas was N2, and the injector and detector temperatures were set at 320 °C. Ergosterol standards were used to calibrate the instrument.
