Colorectal cell invasiveness was determined in a 24-well transwell plate (8 µp pore size; Costar), as described previously (26). Briefly, 5×104 cells were placed in the upper chamber of each insert coated with 200 mg/ml of Matrigel (BD Biosciences, Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA). After 48 h, the invaded cells were stained with haematoxylin and counted. Each experiment was repeated three times independently.
