Jinata Onsen is located at 34.318 N, 139.216 E on the island of Shikinejima, Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. Shikinejima is part of the Izu Islands, a chain of volcanic islands that formed in the last few million years along the northern edge of the Izu-Bonin-Mariana Arc (56). Shikinejima is formed of Late Paleopleistocene- to-Holocene non-alkaline felsic volcanics and Late-Miocene to Pleistocene non-alkaline pyroclastic volcanic flows, with Jinata Onsen located on a small bay on the southern side of the island (Fig. 1).
