The hydroalcoholic extract and ethyl acetate fraction of pomegranate leaves were obtained as previously described (8). All compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction were identified as previously described (9). The ethyl acetate fraction was separated by chromatography on a silica gel (230–400 mesh) column (8 × 100 cm), and eluted with crescent polarity mixtures of n-hexane/ethyl-acetate and ethyl-acetate/methanol. The fractions obtained were subjected to another round of chromatography resulting in 6 fractions, with one of them containing galloyl-HHDP-glucose of >95% purity. The structure was determined using HPLC-DAD-ESI-IT/MS analysis as previously described (9). The data obtained were compared to those verified in a previous study which investigated the chemical structure of galloyl-HHDP-glucose (Figure 1).
