CFU assays were performed by plating 5 × 103 cells/well from single cells obtained from day 12 of co-culture into methylcellulose H4435 in a 24-well plate. Cells were incubated at 37 °C for 14 days before the colonies were counted based on standard morphological criteria. BFU-E (burst-forming unit-erythroid), CFU-E (colony-forming unit-erythrocyte), CFU-GM (colony-forming unit-granulocyte/macrophage), and CFU-GEMM (colony-forming unit-granulocyte/erythroid/macrophage/monocyte) were classified and enumerated based on morphological recognition.
