Total phenolic content was determined using method described by [65] with several modifications. Firstly, an amount of 100 µL (1 mg/mL) of sample extract was transferred into test tubes. Then, 50 µL of Folin solution previously diluted with 7.9 mL distilled water was added. After 4 min, 1.5 mL of 7.5 w/v% sodium carbonate solution was added to the sample tubes and incubated for 2 h in a dark room at room temperature. The absorbance values of the samples were recorded at 765 nm using a UV-VIS microplate reader. All the analyses were performed in triplicates to obtain the main value of the absorbance. Gallic acid at different concentrations was prepared to establish a standard calibration curve. TPCs in the sample extract were calculated by referring to the standard calibration curve and expressed as mg gallic acid equivalent (mg GAE/g) of extract sample.
