The experimental animal model of IBS with visceral hypersensitivity was induced by neonatal colonic inflammation as previously described [34]. In brief, ten-day-old pups were administered an infusion of 0.2 ml of 0.5% acetic acid solution in saline into the colon 2 cm from the anus, only once. Control rats received an equal volume of normal saline. EA treatments were performed in the seventh week.
