We conducted a repeated cross-sectional study to assess trends in polypharmacy and dispensed drugs among adults in the Netherlands from 1 January 1999 until 31 December 2014 using data from a population-based prescription database (IADB.nl). We compared our data with data from the US provided by a study by Kantor et al., who evaluated temporal trends in prescription drug use in a repeated cross-sectional survey study among adults in the US from 1999 to 2012 [1].
