NADH-ubiquinone reductase (UBIQ-RD) was selected as a marker of ROS production as it plays a critical role in several neurodegenerative diseases in which OS is a potential responsible pathway. UBIQ-RD activity was assayed following the method of Cormier et al. [33] where the enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of NADH+ H+ to NAD+, with the ultimate reduction of ubiquinone to ubiquinol. The rate of UBIQ-RD activity was measured as a rotenone-sensitive rate of NADH oxidation at 37 °C and 340 nm.
