MTS assay (CellTiter 96 Aqueous One Solution reagent; Promega, Shanghai, China) was performed to test cell viability. Briefly, 2 × 105/ml cells in 100 μl were treated with NiPT for 48 h. At 3–4 h before culture termination, 20 μl of MTS reagent was added to the wells. The absorbance density was read on a 96-well plate reader (Varioskan Flash 3001, Thermo, Waltham, MA, USA) at wavelength 490 nm. IC50 values were calculated as the concentration of the drug required to obtain 50% of maximal inhibition in cell viability.
