The swelling ratio of hydrogels was assessed by weighting the mass of fully hydrated and dried hydrogel. The swollen cylindrical-shaped samples as described were fist weighted as Ws. Then, the samples were rinsed with DI water and dried in oven for 1 day and weighted as Wd. The swelling ratio of the samples was calculated by the equation as below:

All data recorded were averaged from three repeated experiments.
