The model is written in C++. Data analysis was carried out in R and image processing was done in Fiji (ImageJ). Visualization of the matrix is done using openGL. For each grid point, a line showing the orientation of the density of the most recently selected bin is shown, with a color gradation from white to black as a function of that density up to a cut off of 25, which corresponds to a black line. Example visual output is shown in S1 Fig.
