Benzyl alcohol (9.24 mmol) and 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (13.86 mmol) were dissolved in 15 mL of DCM and stirred at room temperature for 1 h. Benzyl 1H-imidazole-1-carboxylate (4) was obtained as a white powder (80% yield) by silica gel chromatography. 4 (2.47 mmol), 1 (2.47 mmol), and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (2.47 mmol) were dissolved in 15 mL of dry DCM. The solution was stirred at 40 °C for 10 h. B1C ((benzyloxycarbonyloxy)methyl)phenyl benzoate; 5) was obtained as a white powder (40% yield) by flash column chromatography.
