Encapsulation efficiency (EE) and drug loading (DL) were measured using the sodium citrate ultracentrifugation method. The desired amount of SLNs/PD was dispersed in 10% (w/v) sodium citrate solution and centrifuged for 40 min at 40,000 rpm (Beckman-Coulter, Brea, CA) to separate free PD from SLNs/PD. The same amount of SLNs/PD was dissolved in methanol, and the amount of PD was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC; Agilent, Santa Clara, CA) using a Kromasil ODS-1 C18 column (150 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) and a mobile phase of acetonitrile–water.
