The slides were deparaffinized in xylene and rehydrated in alcohol. After, PSR staining was performed using a commercial kit (HistokitTM, Easypath, SP, Brazil), according to manufacturer’s instructions. The slides were examined in an optical microscopy with polarized light (Axio Imager A1, Zeiss®, Göttingen, Germany). The collagen fibers that presented red-orange birefringence were considered type I, while the collagen fibers with green birefringence were interpreted as type III (Coll-III) [21].
